After the news that Google is replacing the pistol emoticon in a water pistol, two other companies have decided to do the same. Both Facebook and Microsoft have openly announced their plans to follow suit.
The growth trend has been seen by a number of companies over the past few years - Apple was the first to start the trend in 2016, with technology giants like Samsung and Twitter after the chairmanship. Facebook and Microsoft are the last two companies to make official passage from the original emoji of weapons to the water pistol.
But it's important to note that Microsoft first displayed its arms emo as a long-range weapon in 2013. Unfortunately, this does not seem to be removed, Business Insider reports.
It makes sense that these technology companies want to make change to ensure uniformity for their users in all brands, but it also comes in an interesting time. With arms control talks and rising violence in the United States, it is also a way of taking a less controversial stance on this issue.
